Overview of the 'Time Machine Project'

This article is currently an experimental machine translation and may contain errors. If anything is unclear, please refer to the original Chinese version. I am continuously working to improve the translation.

Man, I’ve dug myself a huge hole here~ And gave it such a fancy-sounding name too. (Definitely not stolen directly from Apple.)

This idea came to me during the 2020 pandemic. The goal was simple: build a few projects to systematically manage all my files—homework assignments, QQ chat logs, and the like—so I could organize and search them more efficiently.

But, well, time flew by. Before I knew it, school had already started—and midterms were over—before I finally sat down to write this post.

Since I’ve already fallen behind, I might as well expand the scope of this project. I want to use it to archive a detailed history of my academic life, social interactions, weekend coding projects, as well as personal photos and videos—so that I can look back and reminisce in the future.

Without further ado…

Here’s a quick outline:

  • Full file history: Use a NAS to back up and maintain version history of all files on my computer. [Related to the All-In-One Project; software setup details are documented there.]
  • Use Synology Moments to store and categorize photos.
  • Automatically archive QQ & WeChat data.
  • Export all homework records from my online school period.
  • Keep a daily journal using OneNote.
  • Write programming logs on this blog.

All related posts will be filed under the “Time Machine” category. Honestly, I really hope I don’t end up ghosting this for too long.
